Activities/Games
-
Barbie Doll Dress-Up-Suggest
in your invitation that guests dress their Barbie
dolls in the finest attire and bring them to the
party. When everyone has arrived, hold a fashion
show! Let each guest tell everyone else about her
Barbie and the clothes she is wearing.
-
Glamour Girls Fashion Show & Photo Shoot-All
your party girls can be just as fashionable as
their Barbie dolls with a little dressing up!
Collect dresses, skirts, blouses, scarves,
high-heeled shoes, ribbons, shawls, hats, gloves,
and costume jewelry to create your own high
fashion wardrobe. (Neighbors, friends, relatives
and secondhand stores are excellent sources for
dress-up items.)
Encourage the
girls to make themselves even more beautiful than
they already are by donning clothing and
accessories of their choice. Set up a mirror in
the party room if you have one, so the girls can
admire themselves. Once they are elegantly
attired, organize a fun fashion show so every girl
can walk down the runway. You can act as the emcee
by announcing each girl’s name and describing her
fashions. Give each girl a Barbie name (Princess
Barbie, Fairy Barbie, Malibu Barbie, etc.) to make
it more fun. Upbeat music will enhance the event
as the girls strut their stuff!
Don’t forget to take pictures! Develop them as
soon as possible after the party and send prints
to your guests as party favors with the thank-you
notes.
-
Pin the Ponytail on Barbie-To
play this updated version of “Pin the Tail on the
Donkey”, draw a large picture of Barbie on paper,
minus her ponytail, and stick it on a wall. Make a
ponytail for each guest and give each child a turn
to pin it on Barbie, while blindfolded. Award
prizes based on how close each child place his or
her ponytail to the right spot on Barbie’s head.
-
Fashion Designer-Inspire young designers
to create their own fashion designs with this
creative, entertaining activity. At the party,
tape a long sheet of white butcher paper on a wall
or put it on the floor with a smooth surface.
Provide several paper dolls of various sizes so
your designers can trace them on the paper.
Provide a variety of crayons or markers and let
your designers create their own unique fashions.
This is a great icebreaker for the beginning of
your party, or can be used to fill time while
waiting for parents to pick up their children.
Yummy
Treats
-
Finger Sandwiches-Make
your child’s favorite types of sandwiches and cut
them into fun shapes with cookie cutters. Spear
each with a colorful pink food pick to match your
Barbie theme. Serve them on a large tray and let
your guests choose their own sandwiches.
-
Sugary Stars-Make your favorite sugar
cookie recipe, or buy pre-made, refrigerated
dough. Roll out dough; cut cookies into star
shapes. Bake as directed; cool.
Prepare icing by sifting confectioners’ sugar into
a bowl. Slowly add hot water, mixing until it
becomes a smooth paste. Separate the icing into
small bowls and create pretty pastel shades using
food coloring. Spread the icing onto the cooled
cookies and sprinkle them with granulated sugar or
sprinkles to make them shimmer like real stars!
-
Pretty Pink Lemonade-To make this
refreshing party drink, combine 2 cups of sugar, 1
cup lemon juice and the juice from 6
freshly-squeezed lemons. Stir until sugar has
dissolved. Pour mixture into a 2-quart container
and fill with cold water. Add a few drops of red
food coloring to turn the beverage a light shade
of pink since it is Barbie’s favorite color.
Using a star-shaped ice tray, prepare star-shaped
ice ahead of time. When it’s time to serve, pour
the pink lemonade into a punch bowl and add the
frozen stars. Garnish each guests’ glass with a
small paper umbrella to make them feel extra
special. (Makes approximately twelve 8-ounce
servings.)
-
Fabulous Fruit Parfait -This refreshing
treat is sure to be one of the highlights of your
party. In a parfait cup, layer yogurt (any
flavor), granola and fresh fruit (bananas,
blueberries, strawberries and raspberries work
well). Top with whipped topping and serve with
long-handled spoons for more fun!
-
Barbie Doll Cake-To
make this fun cake, you’ll need a Barbie doll to
insert into the cake, which becomes Barbie’s
skirt. Pipe on icing to make the skirt look like a
fancy dress. Use small candies to decorate if you
wish!
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 2-quart
ovenproof glass mixing bowl with shortening and
dust with flour. Prepare boxed cake mix as
directed on the package, and pour batter into the
prepared bowl. Bake 50-60 minutes or until cake
tester inserted into center comes out clean. Cool
15 minutes. Invert on a cake plate with widest
part of cake on bottom. Cool 3 hours before
decorating.
Insert a doll, wrapped in foil from the chest
down, into the center of the cake. Decorate the
skirt with icing tinted any color(s) you wish. Use
a decorator tip to make the skirt as fancy as you
like; decorate the top of the doll’s dress to
match the skirt.
Decorating Tips
Spread your
tablecover on your party table. If your child has
any theme-related toys, you can add them to the
table for a more festive display.
Cut several
one-to-two-foot-long pieces of curling ribbon. Curl
the ribbon by pulling it between your thumb and the
blade of your scissors. Lay the resulting curls on
your table for added color. Hang balloons in bunches
for the best effect. If you choose to fill balloons
with helium, wait until the party day to ensure they
float well!
Use balloons to mark the party spot; hang them on
the mailbox, near the front door, or tie them to the
birthday child's chair to mark the seat of honor.
Place balloons anywhere that strikes your fancy.
The more the better!
Gather six or eight streamers and attach them to
the ceiling in the center of the party room (or over
the table). Use a light fixture over the table, if
you have one, as the center point for the streamers.
To create colorful two-tone streamers, put two
differently colored streamers back-to-back, twist as
you walk them to the wall, and attach at shoulder
height. |
