 Care Bears
Tips and ideas
for the perfect Care Bear Party
Party Tips
1. Mail invitations two weeks
before the party date.
2. Plan a
safe, comfortable place for the party where the
children can have fun, but will not hurt themselves
or your home. If planning an outdoor party be sure
to have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
3. Limit
the party time to two hours or less for children
under six years of age. Up to three hours is fine
for older children.
4. Prepare
more activities than you plan to use in advance.
Activities often take less time than planned and you
may want to keep the children busy.
5. Include
the birthday child in preparations as often as
possible. Let him or her stuff the party favor bags,
make suggestions for games, help with the
decorations, set the table, and mail the invitations
- even if that only means putting them in the
mailbox.
Fun Activities
Face Painting
Make your
guests feel special with a bit of face paint! As
your guests arrive at the party, decorate their
cheeks with their favorite Care Bear symbols:
rainbows, hearts, suns, shamrocks, moons, rain
clouds, or whatever they prefer!
Musical Care Bears
Invite
guests to bring their favorite Care Bears to the
party for a fun twist on a popular party game! To
play, seat the children in a circle. Pass the
birthday child’s favorite bear around the circle
when the music starts. When the music stops, the
child who is caught “bear-handed” is out. Continue
until there is only one child left. Let the winner
choose a different bear and play again!
Pin the Heart on the Care Bear
Before the
party, draw a picture of Tenderheart Bear on a large
piece of cardboard and let the birthday child color
it. Then, cut out a paper heart for each child. On
the party day, add a piece of tape to the back of
each heart and be sure each child’s name is written
on his or her heart.
Mount your
Care Bear poster on the wall. Blindfold each child
one at a time and point him or her towards the
poster. Whoever sticks his or her heart closest to
the center of Tenderheart’s tummy, wins!
Unbearable Knots
This
crazy game will have your guests in knots! Kids
begin by standing in a circle facing one another.
Everyone extends his or her right hand into the ring
and takes a hold of someone else's hand. They then
do the same with their left hands. The object of the
game is to see if they can untangle the "knot" by
stepping over, ducking under, and turning
around--without letting go of anyone’s hand!
Over and Under Relay
Separate
your guests into teams and let each team choose a
plush Care Bear mascot they will use during the
game. (You can substitute a balloon instead.) Tell
each team to form a single-file line, and give the
first person in each line the team mascot (or
balloon). When the game begins, the first person
must pass the Care Bear over his or her head to the
player behind. The player who receives the Care Bear
must pass it between their legs to the next player,
and so on. The pattern continues, alternating over
and under, until the Care Bear reaches the back of
the line. When it reaches the last person, he or she
reverses direction and the Care Bear is passed the
opposite way, from back to front. The first team to
finish wins!
Birthday Banner
Let
the kids express their creativity! Purchase a large
piece of white butcher paper from an arts and crafts
store. At the top of the banner, write “Happy
Birthday (your child’s name)!” Mount the paper on a
wall within easy reach, or lay it on the floor.
Provide crayons, markers, stencils, stickers, glue,
glitter, or small household objects to make crayon
rubbings (quarters, keys, bottle tops, etc.) and let
your guests create their own masterpieces. Ask the
kids to add their names and ages beside their
drawings for a finishing touch, and encourage them
to write special messages. After the party, fold up
the banner and save it for a rainy day. Or, take a
picture of the banner and put it in a photo album.
Delectable Treats
Haystacks
Kids enjoy
making their own meals, and they’ll have lots of fun
preparing this fresh, tasty dish. You’ll need to
provide a bag of corn chips, shredded cheddar
cheese, canned chili, shredded lettuce, diced
tomatoes, sliced olives, sour cream and salsa.
To make a
haystack, crush a handful of corn chips on a plate.
Spoon a layer of warmed chili over the chips and add
cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and olives. Top the
haystack with a dollop of sour cream. Enjoy!
Rainbow Punch
Create a
drink that's as much fun to make as it is to drink!
Freeze several of your child's favorite Kool-Aid®
flavors (berry, orange, lemon, lime, grape, etc.) in
ice cube trays. (Fill trays 1/2-full so more cubes
will fit in each glass.) At serving time, place ice
cubes in a large bowl and let the kids fill their
cups with their choice of colored cubes. Then pour
lightly-colored soda into each child's glass. Your
guests will be delighted with the rainbow of colors!
Biscuit Bears
Show your
guests just how much you care with this wonderful
recipe! You will need vegetable spray, four packages
of refrigerator biscuits, raisins, and poppy seeds
(or sesame seeds).
Divide
each package of biscuits in half, and knead each
portion. (You’ll have 8 equals portions of dough.)
Separate each portion into the following parts: 1
large ball for a body; 1 small ball for head; 7
smaller balls for ears, hands, feet, and a nose.
Spray a
baking sheet with vegetable spray (or cover with
foil) and set each body on it. Place a head above
each body, and add ears, hands, feet, and nose. Poke
raisins in the center of the ears and the nose. Make
eyes and a belly button. Sprinkle bodies with poppy
or sesame seeds to make “fur,” if desired. Bake
according to package directions until golden brown.
Set aside to cool. Send the kids home with their own
bears, or involve them in making these tasty treats.
Enjoy!
Caring Cupcakes
Your
guests will love these cute cupcakes that look just
like their favorite bears! To begin, bake 2 dozen
cupcakes according to package directions, or use
your own recipe. When they are cool, remove the
liners.
Make 6
cups of white frosting and divide it into 6 equal
portions. Use food coloring to tint each portion a
different color to represent a different Care Bear.
To
assemble a cupcake bear, frost the top of a cupcake.
On the top of it, place an unfrosted cupcake
upside-down, securing it with a toothpick. Frost
both cupcakes with the same color you used to hold
the two cupcakes together. (Frost both cupcakes
completely.)
Break
small, round cookies (vanilla wafers, Oreos®, etc.)
into halves and press them into the top cupcake
(bear’s head) to make ears. Use additional halves to
make arms if you wish. Frost ears and arms to match
the rest of your Care Bear.
Use
chocolate chips, m&m’s®, or other small candies of
your choice to make eyes, a nose and a mouth. Use
additional candies to make rainbows, hearts, etc. on
the bears’ tummies. (Makes 12 bears.)
Decorating Tips
Spread your tablecover on your
party table. If your child has any theme-related
toys, you can add them to the table for a more
festive display.
Cut several one-to-two-foot-long
pieces of curling ribbon. Curl the ribbon by pulling
it between your thumb and the blade of your
scissors. Lay the resulting curls on your table for
added color. Hang balloons in bunches for the best
effect. If you choose to fill balloons with helium,
wait until the party day to ensure they float well!
Use balloons to mark the party spot; hang them on
the mailbox, near the front door, or tie them to the
birthday child's chair to mark the seat of honor.
Place balloons anywhere that strikes your fancy.
The more the better!
Gather six or eight streamers and attach them to
the ceiling in the center of the party room (or over
the table). Use a light fixture over the table, if
you have one, as the center point for the streamers.
To create colorful two-tone streamers, put two
differently colored streamers back-to-back, twist as
you walk them to the wall, and attach at shoulder
height.
Smile for the Camera!
Be sure to take lots of pictures.
You and your child will want to remember this
special party. A helpful hint: Order extra prints
and send them to the parents afterward. Remember,
it's not necessary to have everyone in each picture.
Focus on small groups and avoid posing all the
photos. Candids capture the laughter best!
