Sponge Bob
Party
 SpongeBob Squared
Games/Activities
Bubble Fun -Blowing
bubbles is an art in SpongeBob’s subterranean realm
deep down in the Pacific Ocean, so give your guests
a chance to have some fun with bubbles at your
party. Give a small container of bubble solution and
a wand to each guest and let them have fun. Award a
prize for the largest bubble, most bubbles, most
effort, etc. so that every guest gets recognition!
Squidward’s Octopus Tag - A cross
between Red Rover and tag, this game is sure to make
a splash at your party! First, set up a rectangular
“ocean” with boundaries. Let the birthday child
begin the game as Squidward (SpongeBob’s cranky
octopus neighbor). He or she stands in the middle of
the ocean, while all other guests (Fish) line up at
one end of the room.
The
birthday child starts the game by crying out, “I am
the Octopus, king of all motion. Let’s see if you
can cross my ocean.” All the Fish then try to run
across the ocean as Squidward tries to tag them. If
tagged, Fish become Seaweed. Keeping one foot
planted, Seaweed try to reach out and tag the Fish
running by, turning those players into Seaweed too.
If some Fish reach the other side, the Octopus and
Seaweed say the chant and the crossing contest
begins again. The game continues until all the Fish
become Seaweed. The last Fish gets to be the new
Octopus.
Sea
Shell Treasure Hunt - Everyone
loves to find treasures! Use your child's sandbox or
fill a plastic swimming pool with sand. Add a bunch
of different sea shells and cover them with sand.
Let the kids search for the shells and take them
home as party favors. If you wish, add unusual rocks
or other treasures that can be found under the sea.
Assorted shells and stones are available at your
local craft store.
Take a Trip Underwater - If
time permits, take your guests on a trip to your
local aquarium to learn about everyday life under
the sea! Many aquariums offer tours and programs
especially for children. Perhaps your guests will be
luckily enough to catch a glimpse of SpongeBob or
his gang of fishy friends!
Draw SpongeBob - This simple
activity is sure to get some laughs out of the whole
group. All you'll need for each guest is a paper
plate and a pencil. Tell each guest to put the plate
on top of their head and draw SpongeBob the sea
sponge. Repeat the game with a different character
or sea-related creature, such as an octopus, shark,
fish, whale, etc.
Fish, Fish, Shark!! - This game,
inspired by SpongeBob's underwater world of fishy
friends, is based on the traditional "Duck, Duck,
Goose" game. Instead of a goose chasing a duck, a
shark chases a fish.
Gather all your little fishies and seat them in a
circle. To start, designate a "Fish" to walk around
the circle, tapping each guest on the head and
calling each a fish. After several guests have been
tapped, the "Fish" chooses one guest and yells out
"Shark" when tapping him or her on the head. The
Shark chases the Fish and tries to tag her as she
races around the circle and back to the Shark’s
spot. Repeat the game until each guest has had a
chance to be the Shark.
Yummy Treats
Patrick's Starfish Cake
-
Inviting
one of SpongeBob’s best friends to the party is easy
with this fun cake! Simply purchase your child's
favorite flavor of boxed cake mix. Follow package
instructions to prepare and bake in two round cake
pans. When cool, leave one layer whole and cut the
second layer into five equal sections (like cutting
a pie). These pieces will become Patrick's starfish
legs. Place the first layer in the center of a large
piece of cardboard covered with foil. Trim the
curved edges of the starfish legs, so that they fit
snugly against the round edge of the body piece.
Arrange the legs neatly around the body of the
starfish and attach with icing. Frost with red or
pink icing. Draw on Patrick's eyes, nose, etc.
Decorate with colored sprinkles while the icing is
still moist to give Patrick a spiny texture. For
fun, spread blue frosting on the tray to make it
look like Patrick is in the water.
SpongeBob’s Fruit Platter - Make a
simple fruit tray special by serving the fruit with
SpongeBob’s pineapple house! Not only is it a
healthy snack, but it also makes a great centerpiece
for your party table.
First, slice the
bottom from of a whole pineapple, (about 1/4”)
making a smooth horizontal cut so it is stable
standing up by itself. Then, cut your child’s
favorite fruits into bite-size chunks, making some
thin and some thick. Use the pieces of fruit to make
a door, windows, chimney, etc. Use toothpicks to
attach them to the house. Place the pineapple in the
center of the platter and arrange all the fruit
pieces around the outside.
If
you're feeling more ambitious, use the pieces of
fruit and additional toothpicks to make some the
lovable characters in Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob's
underwater city. Try creating his simple starfish
buddy Patrick, his sour next-door-neighbor Squidward
(an octopus), or his thrill-seeking surfer-girl
squirrel pal, Sandy Cheeks.
Worms in a Blanket - Your guests
will squirm with delight when they taste this party
favorite. To make these wormy treats, purchase hot
dogs, cheese, and refrigerator croissants. Slice hot
dogs lengthwise several times and cut cheese into
strips. Unroll croissants and stuff them with the
hot dogs strips (worms) and cheese. Roll croissants
back up and bake as directed, or until golden brown.
Ocean Slushie - This
refreshing drink was made just for fans of SpongeBob
SquarePants! (Serves 8 children.)
Combine 3 cups ice, 3 cups blue sports drink, and 3
large scoops vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt in a
blender. Halve ingredients to avoid overflow, if
necessary. Whirl until smooth and serve in tall
glasses. Add cocktail umbrellas for an extra special
touch.
Decorating Tips
Spread your table cover on your
party table. If your child has any theme-related
toys, you can add them to the table for a more
festive display.
Cut several
one-to-two-foot-long pieces of curling ribbon. Curl
the ribbon by pulling it between your thumb and the
blade of your scissors. Lay the resulting curls on
your table for added color. Hang balloons in bunches
for the best effect. If you choose to fill balloons
with helium, wait until the party day to ensure they
float well!
Use balloons to mark
the party spot; hang them on the mailbox, near the
front door, or tie them to the birthday child's
chair to mark the seat of honor.
Place balloons
anywhere that strikes your fancy. The more the
better!
Gather six or eight
streamers and attach them to the ceiling in the
center of the party room (or over the table). Use a
light fixture over the table, if you have one, as
the center point for the streamers.
To
create colorful two-tone streamers, put two
differently colored streamers back-to-back, twist as
you walk them to the wall, and attach at shoulder
height.
